Together we will watch how the growth cycle of our beloved native Ma‘o (Hawaiian cotton) is shaped by the flow of Mahina.
The Hō Mai Ka Pono Foundation Ma‘o Maoli online workshop series opens access to learning from a Native Hawaiian worldview. We will learn to observe our place through the traditional practice of kilo (holistic observation) with the understanding that all of Hawai‘i was a native garden. Through linking us to the past, Native plants such as Ma‘o broaden our understanding of traditional kilo to include deeper elements of time and place.
Join Kumu Samoana McAngus for a guided kilo journey through the Mahina Kūlua, Huna, and Lāʻaukūlua with hands-on activities to ground our learning.

Learn: - Connect to native plants like maʻo (Hawaiian cotton seed) through story and practice - Understand moon phases and their influence on planting - Observe times of day and sun movement - Basic ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) vocabulary
Activities: - Scarify and plant native maʻo (if you are located in Hawai‘i) - Make your own times of day observation map - Track growth and light through the lunar cycle Please have Zoom app downloaded onto your computer, phone, or electronic device to access this workshop.
