HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES

View this post on Instagram

One of the most special O‘ahu cycles occurs shortly after the autumn equinox. Kaihuopala‘ai (West Loch) metaphorically/literally gives birth to schools of ‘anae holo that holoholo around to the Ko‘olau side and up into the Malaekahana / Lā‘ie area. ~ ~ ~ When considering all the factors connected to this cycle, it can be seen that the ‘anae holo is one of O‘ahuʻs “indicator species.” The ‘anae travels from muliwai to muliwai being exposed to the condition of the ‘āina, stream water and ocean from ‘Ewa to Ko‘olauloa. ~ ~ ~ Of the three awa/lochs in Awa Lau o Pu‘uloa, Kaihuopala‘ai is the only one that is fed by water from both Ko‘olau and Wai‘anae. The wai primarily enters Kaihuopala‘ai through Waikele. Research USGS Circular 1239 to see the water quality in the Waikele region. ~ ~ ~ Each island has unique environmental cycles that form relationships between places. Keep the concept of relationships in mind when decoding mo‘olelo. Mo‘olelo do not occur in isolation, they expand in a way that connects people and places over time. ~ ~ ~ Modern science is an amazing tool. Expanding vision into ‘ike tūpuna allows us to see into these phenomena even further. Letʻs see how far kapu aloha can guide us into the “feeling” part of this cycle. ~ ~ ~ To understand, to see, to perceive things of the ancients beginning with pule is fundamental. If you visit to offer your aloha to both Kaihuopala‘ai & Malaekahana you are opening your heart to learning, seeing and feeling. ~ ~ ~ Look at the literal and metaphorical topography as seen on O‘ahu. Do you see the lua/balance? Do you see the kāne/wahine relationships between places, directions and bodies of water? This is also fundamental. ~ ~ ~ There could be 365 days of ‘anae holo posts explaining how life “breathes” through the island of O‘ahu. Open your heart, it will steady your vision. ‘Imi Na‘auao grounded in Kapu Aloha=paradigm shift:) ~ ~ ~ #kapualoha ~ ~ ~ 2019-2020 KILO Mahina Planners are available now! The much beloved Aunty Pilahi Paki took the time to articulate the layering of meaning within traditional ‘ōlelo. If at all possible try finding “Legends of Hawai‘i: O‘ahuʻs Yesterday” to see how she deconstructed the word Waikīkī. ~ ~ ~ Each of the Waikīkī place names has the potential for healing. Becoming familiar with the ancient sounds is a form of therapy. ~ ~ ~ These layered meanings provide blueprints for healing. The island of O‘ahu has many places where the potential for healing has yet to be fully activated. ~ ~ ~ So much aloha was brought to Waikīkī recently. Looking forward to the day when it is normal for tens of thousands of people to lift the vibration of aloha to such an expansive magnitude on a regular basis. ~ ~ ~ Healing Waikīkī might be easier than we think...If done with kapu aloha, the possibilities are endless. Clearing a space for traditional practices like wa‘a and papa he‘e nalu construction wouldnʻt be that difficult. Behind the Duke Statue might be the spot. ~ ~ ~ The waters from Ka‘au Crater (Pālolo) through Ka‘auhelumoa into Helumoa (Royal Hawaiian), while obstructed, are still connected. Which hotels still get fresh spring water? A little research might open our eyes to all the possibilities. ~ ~ ~ Lo‘i were EVERYWHERE, imagine just starting the process again. It helps to understand the flow of water. Mo‘o li‘i li‘i (aka Mo‘ili‘ili) is still connected to the water that flows between Mānoa (which Aunty Pilahi describes as Mana Noa) and Waikīkī. ~ ~ ~ Could the Hōkūle‘a or another traditional wa‘a visit Waikīkī once a week? Could one day a week be reserved for Maoli to surf Kapuni (near Queens)? Or at least a Sunday morning? ~ ~ ~ Kapu Aloha it will happen. Kapu Aloha it will happen. Kapu Aloha it will happen:) ~ ~ ~ The mana of Kapu Aloha is like an enormous conduit for good to flow into our here and now. May the prayers of the tūpuna be answered:) ~ ~ ~ #kapualoha ~ ~ ~ 2019-2020 KILO Mahina Planners are available now! Pu‘u Hele a ka lā as a traditional learning center teaches us “astronomy.” In fact, EVERY SCHOOL SUBJECT is being shown to us by the ‘āina. ‘IKE TŪPUNA 101- the ‘āina/honua/nā lani teach us everything we will ever need to know in life. ~ ~ ~ Pu‘u Hele a ka lā is a university. Do you see the curriculum? It would take 10 years of IG posts to lay out the basics. We need a team of teachers to map out the purely indigenous sciences seen in this ka‘ananiau marker. ~ ~ ~ The southern ridgeline of Hele a ka Lā points towards the setting location of Mānaiakalani (or Manaiakalani). This phenomena happens at around 11:30pm ish tonight, which means you would need to be on the ridgeline by about 10:30pm. ~ ~ ~ Learning opportunities abound. ‘Imi Na‘auao- a journey into illumination led by the na‘au. In essence our lifeʻs “quest” is to experience illumination. ~ ~ ~ And yet another layer of #aolepvt ~ ~ ~ 2019-2020 KILO Mahina Planners for O‘ahu • Kaua‘i • Maui • & Hawai‘i Island are available now! Itʻs the Kaukalāikalolo zenith day on O‘ahu. We can send a pule aloha to Mauna a Wākea to help provide the extra spiritual nourishment for the kia‘i to carry on. Donʻt miss this kilo at 12:38pm! Shadows will disappear and illumination will be piha. The zenith day comes to #maunakea on the 23rd/24th at 12:28pm during ‘Olekū LUA (balance). ~ ~ ~ Try being present and situated by about 12:30pm latest. The axis from ka Lā through the kuamo‘o to the core of hōnua is formed. The lolo is filled with illumination as the shadows are oki. Hikina/East is the direction of receiving. Everything is rising up into Ke Alaula a Kāne “The bright red road of Kāne” eastern hemisphere. ~ ~ ~ Directly below us Mahina is Hoku at this time. She is timed with the setting sun and will journey with the stars through the entire night sky. All kinds of pairing happening at this time. This is ‘Imi na‘auao 101- the sacred journey into illumination guided by the na‘au:) ~ ~ ~ #oahu #hawaii #mahina #hina #ka‘ananiau #kāne #wahine #zenith #hoku #fullmoon #māhoehope #gemini #pollux #cancerseason #moonjournal #aloha #astrology #astronomy #moon #wai #sun #star

With aloha, in support of peoples with lineal ancestry to ‘āina as is being witnessed atop Mauna a Wākea... As kaukalāikalolo arrives on O‘ahu today at 12:38pm may our vision become clear. Look for this same event to occur at 12:28:30 at #maunakea during the ‘Ole moons (7/24/19 to be specific). ‘Olekū LUA is when the light and the dark sides of mahina are LUA (balanced). ~ Kaukalāikalolo/Ho‘oku‘i/Lāhainā Noon describes the sun at the time when “no shadows” are cast. Ka Lā will be DIRECTLY above us at this time. Kaona is contextual. One strand being that ka Lā is giving us this opportunity to see clearly as an axis is formed from ka Lā through the lolo/fontanel through the core of hōnua. This axis disappears into infinity beyond the reaches of any telescope that will ever be constructed with human hands. ~ The “sciences” that were/are perceived in the ‘ike of tūpuna from the remote past (until this fleeting moment in time) expand beyond the bounds of western intellect. Perhaps one of the threads that will unravel the hihia at Mauna-a -Wākea is present in a conceptual resolution...no western observatory should be built (if at all) higher than a traditional Hawaiian observatory. ~ The sciences of #indigenous peoples were not born from the need to prove or disprove Ke Akua as were western/European sciences. They were born from a resonance that connected the “beyond” of the heavens to the person and into the āina. Those holding tapu could certainly be so immersed as to relive the entire experience. The sciences originated in the na‘au where time and space are perceived differently. ~ This diagram of O‘ahu during the zenith presents a graphic of what can be felt. The feeling quality of phenomena begins to open in a meditative space where the noise of the intellect is surrendered. The two cannot exist simultaneously. The western mind creates dichotomy, the ancient perceptions feel the pairing inherent in movement of life. ‘Ike papa lua begins in the na‘au:) ~ #oahu #hawaii #mahina #hina #ka‘ananiau #kāne #wahine #hua #māhoehope #gemini #pollux #cancerseason #moonjournal #aloha #astrology #astronomy #moon #wai #sun #star

Sites of O‘ahu gives a broader perspective of indigenous O‘ahu ‘ike that many ancient lineage Wai‘anae families are still aware of. Wai‘anae and Kaua‘i pili koko (Wai‘anae dialect for ‘ohana) have a long standing peaceful relationships.
